PEARS

Pears are picked early and ripen into sweet, juicy fruit after being removed from the vine. They are one of world’s most popular fruits, with 3,000 varieties available worldwide. The Pear is a versatile fruit that can be eaten out of hand or in many sweet and savoury dishes. Vineland Growers offers three varieties of pears including Bartlett, Bosc and Cold Snap Pear.

Cold Snap Pear

Cold Snap Pear

The Cold Snap is a new pear variety that took Niagara pear growers over 30 years to develop! The Cold Snap is a firm fleshed pear that has a light green skin with a red blush. It is a less acidic fruit with a unique sweetness that has a long storage life. As it is a new variety, availability for the Cold Snap pear will vary depending on crop yield as our growers work to perfect their production methods. Bosc Pear

Bosc Pear

Bosc pears are long and slender, firm and have a sweet, slightly tart flavour. Bosc pears tend to have dark brown blemishes known as russeting. This is very common and does not affect the taste or quality of the pear!

Available: September - November

Bartlett Pear

Bartlett Pear

The Bartlett pear is the most common type of pear with a very juicy and sweet flesh. It has a bright green or yellow skin and is commonly used for commercial production.

Available: Mid August - October
